ASAP developed an innovative platform for monitoring drug safety, created for the needs of the Medical University – Sofia.
The developed system is aimed at analyzing and monitoring the safety of the use of insulin medicinal products, using artificial intelligence technologies to support better access to reliable medical information and the early identification of potential risks associated with drug therapy.
Insulin therapies play a key role in the treatment of diabetes, but managing the therapy often requires quick access to a large volume of medical information – dosages, contraindications, adverse reactions, and drug interactions. This information is usually contained in numerous medical documents and regulatory sources, which makes it difficult for both patients and medical professionals to quickly find and understand it.
To address these challenges, ASAP developed a platform that uses artificial intelligence to process and structure information from official medicinal sources, including Summary of Product Characteristics (SmPC) and patient leaflets. Through an intelligent chat interface, users can ask questions in natural language and receive contextually grounded answers based on validated medical information.
Among the key capabilities of the platform are:
- an intelligent AI chat module for searching information about insulin medicinal products;
- automated processing and structuring of medical documents ;
- analysis of potential drug interactions and adverse reactions;
- generation of warnings and notifications related to drug safety;
- the possibility to submit reports of adverse drug reactions and their subsequent analysis.
The platform also allows the entry of information about individual therapy, which enables the system to provide personalized warnings and information when potential risks related to the medications being used are identified. In this way, a digital environment is created that supports better patient awareness and contributes to pharmacovigilance processes.
In the long term, the development of the platform foresees expanding its scope to other therapeutic areas, integration with medical information systems, and the use of accumulated data for scientific research aimed at improving drug safety and the quality of medical therapies.
