Gabrovo Deploys Real-Time Water Level Monitoring System with ASAP’s Participation

01/05/2026

Gabrovo is taking an important step toward better flood risk prevention by implementing a real-time water level monitoring system at 8 key locations across the city. ASAP is participating in the implementation with a technological approach focused on reliability, timely response, and sustainable risk management.

The project is part of a broader initiative for climate change adaptation and increasing resilience in European mountain regions. Within this vision for a safer urban environment, a water level monitoring system is being deployed in Gabrovo to provide real-time data from 8 strategically selected points. The system is designed to support early detection of flood risk through continuous monitoring of water bodies and automated data transmission to a central server. The technical specification includes monitoring stations with ultrasonic or sonar sensors, secure communication, autonomous power supply, and the ability to generate alerts when critical thresholds are reached. The eight locations were selected following assessment and analysis of factors such as geographical and hydrographic characteristics, climate conditions, historical flood data, and infrastructure risks. The goal is to ensure a higher level of safety, more accurate situational awareness, and faster response in case of threats to the population and infrastructure.

With the implementation of such a solution, Gabrovo reinforces its commitment to more modern, better-prepared, and more resilient management of climate risks. The project demonstrates how technology can support local authorities, institutions, and citizens when it comes to protection, prevention, and real-time awareness.

ASAP contributes expertise in building monitoring systems, connectivity, and operational data solutions that ensure critical information reaches responsible teams in a timely manner. The solution includes not only the delivery and installation of equipment but also commissioning, training, warranty support, maintenance, and provision of a communication environment and data access.

The water level monitoring system in Gabrovo is an example of how properly selected technologies and strategically positioned monitoring points can create a reliable foundation for more effective early flood warning.

ASAP continues to work on solutions that help Bulgarian municipalities become better prepared, more resilient, and more effective in managing critical risks.
