Ubiquiti launches fanless Wi-Fi 7 router and plans additional products in the UniFi Industrial series
With the new UniFi Industrial series, Ubiquiti expands its presence in the professional networking equipment market, designed for harsher and industrial environments. Devices in this line are fanless, which the manufacturer claims makes them more reliable and suitable for long-term operation. The first product from the series is already on the market, and additional devices are in development.
Ubiquiti creates a new product category within the UniFi ecosystem, called UniFi Industrial, aimed at offering especially rugged and reliable solutions. The first device in this line is the Cloud Gateway Industrial (UCG Industrial). It is priced at $579 and is already available for purchase.
Main Features of the UCG Industrial
For this price, users get an extremely robust router with passive cooling and a range of built-in features. The UCG Industrial includes several PoE+++ ports providing up to 90 watts per port, with a total power budget of 270 watts. The gateway itself consumes around 28 watts, requiring effective heat dissipation.
Similar to other manufacturers, Ubiquiti addresses this issue with a metal case featuring a large ribbed surface that helps dissipate heat. This also contributes to the relatively high weight of the device – approximately 5.3 lbs (around 2.4 kg), excluding additional accessories such as feet or mounting hardware.
By default, the router comes with a stand, which can be replaced with handles, allowing the device to be positioned vertically.
Mounting and Wireless Connectivity
A rack-mount kit is also available for $59, which includes a standard rack "ear" and a bracket for external power. This allows the UCG Industrial to be installed in a 1U rack space.
The router supports wireless connections up to Wi-Fi 7 (802.11be). However, it does not include the 6 GHz band introduced with Wi-Fi 6E.
SIM Card Support and Remote SIM Function
The enclosure has two SIM card slots, but this feature is not yet active and is expected to be added through a future update. At that time, the UniFi 5G Max Outdoor modem can be connected.
The idea is for SIM cards to be inserted directly into the gateway device, where they can be easily swapped, while the external modem is mounted in a higher and harder-to-reach location. In this case, the SIM slots in the modem itself remain empty. Ubiquiti calls this functionality Remote SIM, and the modem will also require a software update to support it.
Network Interfaces and Hardware
From a networking perspective, the router offers:
- SFP+ slot for transceivers or DAC cables
- one 10GbE RJ45 port
- four 2.5GbE ports
The device also includes standard UniFi Gateway functions, allowing integration with cameras and other devices in the UniFi ecosystem. Additionally, it features a microSD slot for data storage and 3 GB of RAM.
Planned Future Devices
Besides the gateway device, Ubiquiti plans to add other products to the UniFi Industrial series. According to the presented video, the company is preparing network switches and access points with external antennas.
