Extreme Networks Receives EPEAT Certification for Networking Equipment
Extreme Networks has become the first networking equipment vendor to receive registration in the EPEAT Registry for its products. The certification covers 5420 Series switches and AP4020 Wi-Fi 7 access points, which are the first solutions from the company’s portfolio to be included in this environmental registry.
What is EPEAT
EPEAT is an environmental standard managed by the Global Electronics Council, used by organizations to evaluate IT products based on their environmental impact throughout their lifecycle.
The certification includes criteria such as:
- climate impact
- resource use
- chemical substances
- supply chain sustainability
Inclusion in the registry enables manufacturers to meet sustainability requirements that are increasingly part of public procurement processes and corporate tenders.
Importance for businesses and public organizations
EPEAT certification is particularly important for organizations that must comply with requirements for:
- reducing carbon emissions
- responsible use of materials
- supply chain transparency
These include government institutions, manufacturing companies, and other organizations with regulatory obligations. For these customers, the availability of certified products simplifies the selection process and reduces the need for additional evaluation of environmental characteristics.
The first certified products
The first Extreme Networks products included in EPEAT are:
- 5420 Series switches
- AP4020 wireless access points (Wi-Fi 7)
The company plans to expand the list with additional products, although no specific models have been announced at this stage.
Growing focus on sustainability in network infrastructure
Networking equipment is increasingly becoming part of sustainability initiatives, as companies begin to evaluate not only data centers and end devices but also core infrastructure, including switches and wireless access points.
Until now, environmental labeling in this segment has been less developed compared to other IT product categories, making the inclusion of networking equipment in EPEAT an important step for the industry.
Impact on the market and public procurement
The growing importance of environmental criteria is changing how organizations select technology vendors. Increasingly, evaluations require:
- detailed information on emissions
- data on materials used
- sustainability and product management policies
In this context, the presence of independent certification such as EPEAT simplifies the evaluation process and reduces the burden on procurement teams.
Part of a broader sustainability strategy
According to the company, the EPEAT registration is part of its broader goals related to corporate responsibility and sustainable development. Extreme Networks emphasizes that customers do not have to choose between high performance and environmental responsibility, but can achieve both through the new generation of certified solutions.
A new standard for the industry
The inclusion of the 5420 Series and AP4020 in EPEAT marks the beginning of a new standard for networking equipment. It is expected to encourage other vendors to certify their products in order to meet the growing sustainability requirements in large IT projects and public procurement.
The registration of these products shows that environmental standards are gradually becoming a key factor in the selection of network infrastructure, alongside performance and functionality.
