Huawei Unveils New F5G-A Solutions and Products in Africa to Accelerate Industrial Digitalization

26/05/2026

Huawei introduced new F5G-A solutions and products during the Huawei Intelligent Africa Congress 2026 in Cairo, Egypt. As part of the event, the Global Optical Summit (GOS) 2026 Africa was also held, bringing together over 300 industry representatives, technical experts, and partners from various African countries.

The company presented an updated portfolio of solutions for industrial communication networks, all-optical campus infrastructures, and optical sensing technologies. The goal is to accelerate AI adoption across industries through optical networks.

Focus on Optical-AI Convergence

Huawei is emphasizing its “Optical-AI Convergence” strategy, through which optical networks are evolving from traditional data transmission channels into AI-driven intelligent systems.

According to the company, this development includes:

  • deployment of 400G and 800G backbone networks
  • implementation of all-optical industrial networks
  • development of all-optical campus solutions
  • innovation in fiber sensing technologies

Huawei states that the integration of AI and optical technologies creates a foundation for digital transformation in Africa.

New solutions for critical industries

For sectors with high security requirements – government, energy, and transport – Huawei introduced a solution integrating OTN communications with quantum encryption.

The solution uses:

  • the industry’s first integrated QKD (Quantum Key Distribution) board
  • the OptiXtrans E6600 platform

This enables the combination of quantum encryption with traditional optical communications and provides enhanced protection against future quantum threats.

Smart substations and IoT integration

Huawei also introduced a smart substation solution with a new series of products for the energy sector. The solution includes:

  • multi-layer monitoring
  • integration of multiple networks
  • flexible access to IoT devices

This creates a so-called “transparent station” IoT system with full coverage and centralized management of various sensors and devices.

iFTTO for intelligent campuses

In the field of campus infrastructure, Huawei is evolving the Fiber to the Office (FTTO) concept into the new iFTTO solution, which combines:

  • connectivity
  • sensing capabilities
  • computing power
  • centralized management

The company also introduced new all-optical access point devices:

  • OptiXstar W857I
  • OptiXstar W817I

These devices support IoT and sensing functionalities and are designed for building intelligent campuses.

Fiber sensing for industrial environments

Huawei also introduced a fiber sensing solution for monitoring conveyor systems in industries such as:

  • mining
  • logistics
  • building materials manufacturing
  • metallurgy
  • energy

The technology enables automated inspections and anomaly detection in conveyor rollers through sound and vibration analysis, achieving what the company claims is zero missed detections.

Real-world examples from Africa

During the event, representatives from various organizations shared practical experience from deploying Huawei solutions. These included:

  • Engineering Consultants Group, which presented its experience with all-optical campus networks
  • Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company, which demonstrated the deployment of industrial communication networks

Focus on the future

The event concluded with awards for partners from the OptiX Club program for their contribution to the development of optical technologies and intelligent transformation across industries.

Huawei stated that it will continue to drive innovation in optical networks and AI, working together with customers and partners to accelerate digital transformation in Africa.
