Red Hat Introduces RHEL 10.2 and 9.8 with Enhanced Security and Hybrid Cloud Management

01/06/2026

Red Hat announced the upcoming availability of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10.2 and Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9.8. The new versions build on the capabilities of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10 and are aimed at improving security, accelerating AI innovation, and reducing operational drift in hybrid cloud environments.

According to Red Hat, organizations increasingly need to balance rapid adoption of AI technologies with high requirements for security and infrastructure control.

Stronger protection for AI and critical environments

RHEL 10.2 and 9.8 introduce new mechanisms for protecting sensitive data and AI workloads. The company is expanding confidential computing capabilities, which protect information during processing in memory and the CPU.

Additionally, the following are introduced:

  • support for post-quantum cryptography
  • sealed images technologies
  • image mode improvements for more consistent container-based environments

According to Red Hat, these features help organizations build secure and trusted AI environments without compromising performance or data sovereignty.

Preparation for quantum threats

With the new versions, the company integrates cryptographic mechanisms aligned with National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) standards, aimed at protection against future quantum attacks.

Red Hat Certificate System 11.0 introduces quantum-resistant signatures designed to reduce the risk of “harvest now, decrypt later” scenarios, where data is collected today for future decryption using quantum technologies.

AI-based automation and easier upgrade processes

Red Hat introduces AI-assisted automation tools to automate complex upgrade operations and reduce manual maintenance.

New features include:

  • a new Red Hat Enterprise Linux upgrade system role
  • integration with Red Hat Ansible Certified Content
  • automated self-service upgrade processes via Ansible Automation Platform

The company states that this approach aims to reduce downtime and human errors during system updates.

AI-ready Linux management

Red Hat also adds new AI-based tools for managing Linux environments.

The platform includes:

  • Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers for Red Hat Satellite
  • developer preview integrations for Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Red Hat Lightspeed
  • capability for management via natural language queries

These solutions enable AI agents to use Linux telemetry and system data in real time for automated management and troubleshooting.

Additionally, the open-source agent goose is now available in the extensions repository and enables connection of multiple MCP servers into a unified command-line assistant.

Improved malware protection and vulnerability management

Red Hat is expanding its partnership with CrowdStrike by adding more than 2,300 new malware signatures for improved threat detection.

Red Hat Satellite 6.19 now offers:

  • local vulnerability triage for air-gapped environments
  • AI-assisted troubleshooting via MCP server integration
  • an additional 12 months of Extended Update Support (EUS)

Image-based workflows and greater control

The new image mode capabilities allow updates to be pre-downloaded without immediate installation. This gives administrators better control over maintenance windows and uptime management in large infrastructures.

Availability

Red Hat confirmed that RHEL 10.2 and 9.8 will be available in the near future, while Red Hat Satellite 6.19 is already officially available.
