Lenovo Reports Strong AI Demand Despite Data Center Constraints

05/10/2026

Lenovo continues to see strong demand for artificial intelligence infrastructure despite growing constraints affecting the development of data centers, including component shortages, limited power capacity, and increasing resistance to new data center projects.

According to Ryan McCurdy, President of Lenovo North America, these challenges are not currently slowing customer interest in AI. Instead, organizations across multiple sectors continue to invest in infrastructure as they move AI workloads from experimentation toward broader production use.

The strong demand is reflected in Lenovo’s Infrastructure Solutions Group, which recorded a 98% year over year increase in revenue to a record $8.5 billion during the company’s first fiscal quarter. The growth is no longer limited to hyperscalers and cloud providers, with increasing activity from multinational corporations, large enterprises, SMBs, and public sector organizations.

Lenovo is also seeing customers evaluate different deployment models for AI workloads, including public cloud and on-premises environments. For many organizations, the decision is increasingly influenced by the cost of running AI models, as well as requirements around data control, security, and infrastructure efficiency.

At the same time, supply chain constraints remain an important factor. McCurdy expects shortages of memory and other components to continue through 2026 and potentially into 2027, as demand for computing capacity remains higher than currently available supply.

Lenovo points to its supply chain management capabilities as an important advantage in navigating the current environment. The company rose from 15th place in 2020 to 5th place in Gartner’s Global Supply Chain Top 25 in June 2026, reflecting its focus on resilience and supply planning.

Despite the challenges surrounding AI infrastructure, Lenovo believes enterprise AI adoption is still at an early stage. The company also sees growing opportunities beyond data center servers, with AI-enabled PCs, notebooks, desktops, and workstations expected to play a greater role as organizations look for additional ways to manage AI workloads and costs.
