Lenovo Showcases Up to 45% Cost Savings with VMware Cloud Foundation Advanced Memory Tiering

07/09/2026

Lenovo is showcasing new capabilities designed to improve the economic value of VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) and scale AI-ready private cloud environments. A key highlight is VMware Cloud Foundation Advanced Memory Tiering on the Lenovo ThinkAgile VX platform, which according to Lenovo testing can deliver up to 45% cost savings compared with all-DRAM configurations.

The solutions were presented at VMware Explore 2026 in Las Vegas, where Lenovo is also demonstrating new technologies designed to accelerate the transition from AI pilot projects to production environments, while allowing enterprises to keep their data close and under their own control.

As organizations move from AI experimentation to real-world production applications, they are looking for ways to maximize the value of the VMware environments they already rely on while preparing their infrastructure for the next generation of AI workloads.

Lenovo is helping customers improve infrastructure economics, increase efficiency, protect mission-critical workloads, and simplify the transition to production inference and agentic AI.

“Organizations are moving AI from experimentation to scaled production, and infrastructure decisions are driving business outcomes,” said Scott Patti, Vice President, Infrastructure Solutions Group at Lenovo. “Customers aren’t just looking for more performance – they’re looking for better economics, greater control and stronger resilience across the environments they already trust.”

Key solutions highlighted by Lenovo

  • VCF Advanced Memory Tiering enables organizations to extend memory capacity by using high-performance NVMe as a secondary memory tier. Lenovo testing on ThinkAgile VX demonstrated up to 45% cost savings compared with all-DRAM configurations. This enables organizations to scale larger workloads, increase VM density, and make more efficient use of existing infrastructure. The validated ThinkAgile VX platform also simplifies private cloud deployment and lifecycle management.
  • Lenovo Hybrid AI Factory with VMware Private AI Services provides a validated foundation for deploying and scaling AI applications with greater speed, security, and cost predictability, while keeping enterprise data under customer control. Lenovo Hybrid AI platforms feature VCF AI ReadyNodes – validated, GPU-accelerated configurations for the newly announced VMware AI Factory. These solutions help organizations move from AI pilots to production faster while maintaining control over enterprise data.

According to Paul Turner, Chief Product Officer, organizations continue to evolve their VMware Cloud Foundation environments and are looking for infrastructure that enables efficient scaling while supporting the next generation of AI workloads. Together with Lenovo, the company aims to accelerate this journey with AI solutions designed to deliver performance, flexibility, and operational confidence.

VMware Explore 2026 is another step in Lenovo’s ongoing efforts to help organizations modernize their IT infrastructure for the AI era. By enabling AI-ready private cloud environments, improving VMware Cloud Foundation economics, and strengthening VMware infrastructure resilience, Lenovo is helping customers modernize on their own terms while protecting existing investments and preparing for future technology requirements.

Visitors to VMware Explore 2026 can learn more about Lenovo’s solutions at booth #201.

Note: The up to 45% cost savings figure is based on Lenovo’s cost analysis of selected 1TB memory configurations using DRAM and NVMe compared with all-DRAM configurations. Actual savings may vary depending on the configuration and workload.
